We've had this for 21 months and it's been reliable and easy to use. The sensitivity and volume can both be tweaked to get what you need - useful when you have an older baby and don't want to hear every murmur!
Another reveiwer who mentioned the 'interference' from a lullaby should just have turned the sensitivity down as it's just picking up a sound rather than actual interference.
Base unit lasts hours and hours without needing to ne recharged, unlike some I've seen, so you don't need to move the plugged end around with you for the evening.
Being digital, there's no constant hum.
It does have a couple of seconds delay in switching on sound, but I think it's meant to and means it won't transmit a cough, for example. |
YIKES! Terrible unit - no volume!!!!

| I own a TOMY Walkabout Platinum digital monitor. With a second baby coming along I decided to try a new monitor and ordered this unit. After setting it up and reading the directions I tried unsuccessfully to get a clear sound unless I had the monitor right to my ear! I had soft music playing in my baby's room which came through - then would stop for several minutes, even though the music was still playing in the baby's room. Zero interference - I don't think so! Where did the sound go for several minutes! Also, there is no temperature display on the monitor which is really important. I immediately wrapped it back up and sent it back to Amazon. I will definitely order another TOMY. The rechargeable batteries have weakened on the Tomy, but I called them up (number on the back of the parents unit) and as it is guaranteed for two years they are sending replacement batteries out to me! Can't get better than that! Do not order the Philips Avent DECT SCD498 if you are looking to get things done while your baby is asleep! Who has the time these days to sit with a monitor to your ear!!!! |
Brilliant Product!

| Have previously owned a Tomy walkabout baby monitor which was given to us as a present. Unfortunately we had to give up on after moving baby into his own room, the monitor started picking up a lot of interference and cutting out for a couple of minutes at a time. So we decided to invest in a new one and chose this Philips Avent baby monitor because of it's guarantee for zero interference. It really does do what it says on the box. There are no problems with interference and what's more there's no annoying static noise when we turn the volume up and on to sensitivity mode you can even hear the baby breathing. A fantastic product, top marks to Philips for this one! |
