Shakila Khalaghe was burned by McDonald’s tea

Shakila Khalaghe, 11-month-old baby, was burned by McDonald’s tea, is fighting back after undergoing skin grafts. She was burned on her face, chest and legs. A McDonald’s spokesman said an investigation had cleared the company of any blame. “All of our hot drinks are labelled with cautionary “handle with care, I’m hot” and “caution contents hot” messages and lids are securely fitted,” he added.

The accident happened when the baby and her mother was on a shopping trip in Newcastle. A black cup of tea was knocked off the counter all over her. “It has been a horrible couple of weeks but Shakila is gradually getting better,” said Ms Hands, 19, of North Shields, North Tyneside.

“Her burns have improved quite a bit following the operation and I’m pleased with the results, but we’ve been told she is going to be scarred for life on her chest. Mohammad and I have seen a change in her personality since it happened and she is not the same little girl as before,’ she added.

Mr Khalaghe, 20, said he was furious with McDonald’s offering just £75 compensation. “I think it’s disgusting,” he said.

We agreed with a reader comment on Metro UK website: We are sorry for Shakila and the fact that she will bare this scars for life. Unfortunately as it is not mentioned whether the cup was knocked over by the mother herself, another customer or the Mc Donald worker, it is not possible to comment on whether 75 pounds is appropriate compensation or not. However, being aware how today’s society takes any opportunity to take legal action against wealthy companies in order to gain money, rightly or not, we agree with the outcome of the investigation.
